Labor with Love

I got up at the crack of morning to head to school just as normal this fine Monday morning.  After getting showered and dressed, I paused just before running out the door to check my emails.
Good thing!
There was a BLIZZARD outside and the plows could not keep up.  The roads were not safe for the busses to go pick up children.  Thank GOODNESS they considered the SAFETY of the children as more important than the worry of having to make up this day later....

I immediately changed into fuzzy pants and a thermal shirt and called it a wonderful morning.  I sat down and got busy with sketching out some thoughts for today.  I decided to go ahead a make a video of one of them.  I am SOOOOO new at the video making process and I am WAAAAAAY self conscious about it.  I am sure that I will get better with time and practice... haha!!  but for now.... I am trying to be very forgiving- to myself- about my insecurities with making the videos....

The lettering/sketching part is no big deal.... it is my voice..... my VOICE!  I think I sound like a vaguely southern chipmunk..... I thought I had LOST my Southern accent.... but now I realize that I have just diluted it.... a bit.....   Maybe I should let it come back!

Haha!  Happy Snow day!

Choose Happy!

Choose happy!

I want to make today a good one. I hope you do too!

Start with warm and happy thoughts.

Do the good stuff!

Cheers!

A Lovely Day

Good Morning!

I woke up this morning so excited to get my pens out. I am anxious to get going on another video- while I can still remember what I did yesterday- haha!

I have been creating art for many, many years. I did it an do it purely for the pleasure of doing it. I have made a bit of pocket change over the years when I have been commissioned to do various projects. I also sold at craft shows and other similar venues.  Truthfully, I am quite shy and It was quite a challenge to put myself out there. Still, usually the positive far outweighed the challenges.

After my kids all were school aged, I went back to school and became a teacher. Teaching is quite time consumptive and my artwork got pushed farther and farther into the storage room.....  and that made me sad.

For the last few years I have gotten in the habit of carrying pens in my purse... and I doodle everywhere.  I have developed quite a love for jotting down positive sayings to lift myself and others.

The changes that have come about with the internet have opened new doors for getting artwork out there- reaching far beyond the small communities that we live in. I am happy to have these new opportunities to share what I do with others.

cheers!

A Good Day

I had all kinds of errands to do...  and I had a Saturday to do them..... I got up at the crack of 5... Yes, I did- seeing as how the cat jumped on me and purred loudly that she missed me and wanted me to go put food in her dish...
and then I went and crashed on the couch for a little while longer....

I still thought that I would go for a nice jaunt into town and peruse the antique shops for some little something... or another....   AFTER I did a quick lettering project... It was early... only 7... plenty of time.....

I pulled the curtains back to enjoy a bit of winter light.... I sat down and ... began.....

I love how I go into auto pilot when I just let it flow.   It is almost effortless at these times... I love it...

When I looked up again, it had started snowing... gently at first... and then a bit more ...

I decided to wait until it 'let up' a bit... (hahahahaha!)

At the point I realized that this was a "sip hot cocoa and keep your slippers on" sort of day, I decided to flirt with danger, try a new uncomfortable challenge..... to make a little video of my 'work'.

GULP!

Well, the first challenge was how to get the camera in a position to film more or less what I was doing... and then how to make it into a video to share after.....

HAHAHA!  It took me a total of 10 minutes to sketch my little bit of art..... and it took me in the realm of 6 hours to convert it into a usable video....

SOOOO not perfect... but I sure did learn a lot!

Please be kind!
cheers!

Sunny and Cold- Just perfect for January!

What a wonderful day!

We had a lovely snowstorm last night.  We woke to a winter wonderland and deep, deep snow.  I was happy to get out there and shovel.  It was crisp and invigorating. The dogs were excited to romp in the snow and we even saw a little doe in the yard.  Both were curious about the other.

We strapped on our winter boots and went to it.  I loved it.  The neighbors down the way all had snowblowers at their disposal .... haha!  How would that be???

The snow was climbing right up the steps, trying to find the warmth inside perhaps...

The sun was just coming up and we were already making a dent in the job at hand - a small dent... but a dent.
Our sweet helpers

The excitement of it all.

It seems funny now, to put snowmen on the porch....
